Excel Project (XLP) an exciting new project for Lydd has begun!

“We refuse to believe that this is a lost generation.” So says Patrick Regan, O.B.E., Founder and C.E.O of XLP (Excel Project), which has worked successfully with vulnerable young people in London for over 20 years.

XLMentoring is a nationwide, church based development, working 1-to-1 with young people who are at risk of exclusion or of not completing school or of antisocial or criminal behaviour. Lydd Parish has registered to host and develop this project in this area and already has a trained Coordinator and two Mentos.

Very often what these youngsters (mentees) need is someone who will commit to them, get to know them, accept them as they are and at the same time help them to raise their self-esteem, develop achievable goals and start to work towards them.

XLM is not a therapy service, not counselling, not coaching, but it IS mentor and mentee working to discover, together, that young person’s potential. It is not something done to or for, but with the mentee.

Could YOU be a Mentor?

Could YOU be the one person to take an undivided interest in helping a troubled youngster?

The training given is thoroughly planned and locally delivered. As well as this training – 12 hours in all, spread over 4 weeks – your commitment would be to meet with your mentee for 2 hours a week over a period of 12 months.

There is a good level of mentor support built into the programme.

The XL Mentoring Coordinator for the Benefice is Frances Aubrey.

If you are interested in mentoring, or would like some more information, please contact the Frances Aubrey on 01797 320 890 to learn more and join the training programme.
